The patent-pending technologies from ChartIQ include:

• Divergence detection, which identifies divergences between price action and oscillating indicators, and visually plots associated price targets.
• Automated gap detection and plotting, which allows analysts to quickly identify current and historical trading gaps
• Visual sequential count indicator, a novel visual trading signal for sequential count algorithms, such as 9/13 Count
• Price projection tool (aka “forward testing”), which allows analysts to test theories for future price movement, using their choice of technical indicators.

Read More »]]> One of the most popular features in ChartIQ Plus for iPad, Windows8, and web browsers is our gap detection and plotting feature.  While some gaps are easy to spot with the naked eye, smaller ones can be tough to spot – and really important gaps from a long time ago, are often off-screen and outside of your view.

As we can now see, the bottom of that candle was testing (and partially filling) a gap from late July, 2012!

Here’s another example, using Apple (AAPL), where we can see just over a year’s worth of daily candles, and can see the pattern of gaps that has emerged.  As you can see, the latest price action has been within a trading range bounded by two gaps.

Read More »]]> A new version of ChartIQ Plus just hit the AppStore today (new versions of ChartIQ and ChartIQ Practice Trading Simulator are on the way!) which includes a new drawing feature called Magnet Mode.  Magnet Mode has been available on the web version of ChartIQ for a  while now, and has finally made it to the iPad app.

Normally if you draw a segment (or any other drawing type), you can get pretty darn close to the top of a bar or tip of a candlestick, but sometimes it’s tricky to get it exactly there. If you look really closely, you’ll see you’re not quite on it.

For the perfectionists among us (me included!), it just wasn’t quite perfect, especially when you’d switch to an intraday chart and see it close-up.

Enter Magnet Mode.  Now when I want to snap right to an OHLC value, I can turn on magnet mode by tapping the magnet icon (highlighted by the red box):

As I move the crosshairs, the small circle will snap to OHLC values, letting me attach the ends of my drawing precisely to the candlestick.

Now when I let my OCD shine and zoom way way in, my drawing is still perfectly where I intended it.
